The WSEC was founded by the Village of Westmont in 2004 with the goal of ensuring the continuation of quality community events that offer fun for the whole family. The organization was created as an entity separate from the Village municipal government to allow fundraising for community events. Initially, the Westmont Special Events Corporation focused on the coordination of the Taste of Westmont, an award-winning community festival typically held the second weekend in July.
Over the years, the WSEC has taken on more responsibilities with the coordination and assistance with various community events such as Westmont Cruisin' Nights, Concerts in the Park, Artists in Action, and more. The WSEC has recently founded the Muddy Waters Museum in an effort to perserve and foster the culture and history of the town of Westmont. The WSEC and the Village of Westmont continue to work closely with each other to help ensure good communication while developing successful events for the entire community.
